This luxurious enclave is located in posh Punta Mita, and smartly sited on 22 acres amid undulating fairways and verdant tropical gardens. The stretch of white-sand beach on-site is interspersed with rocky coves, and there are a couple of pretty little islets just offshore.

Handsome, spacious rooms are decorated in traditional Baja style, with authentic artwork and wood detailing. They come with high-end electronics and decadent bathrooms, but the private terraces are arguably the highlight; all have at least partial ocean views and some have whirlpools. The beach is secluded and gorgeous, and the pools are top-notch.

Summer is here! And it’s got us dreaming of a long (island) weekend to kick things off in style. But when heading to Long Island for a little fun in the sun, visitors have to make a choice between staying at an uber-luxe spot and staying at a nice spot that’s not quite as pricey.

Our first option is the gorgeous Panoramic View hotel in the Hamptons, where rates for Memorial Day weekend start at $175 per night. The hotel has a lovely pool overlooking its stretch of private beach, and great views from the in-room balconies and patios. The slightly more upscale Allegria Hotel on Long Beach also boasts ocean views from its stunning pool and spacious rooms, but charges almost $400 per night on the same holiday weekend.

Can you tell which view is from which hotel? Take a guess in the comments section below, and then find the answer after the jump!

Option 1

Option 2

Option 1 is the pricier Allegria Hotel, and Option 2 is the luxuriously less expensive Panoramic View.

Talk about a spot to see and be seen! Over a third of the seating is outdoors, so diners can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner outdoors. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list, but the dessert menu is perhaps more decadent, with options such as a candy cart, a “chocolate experience,” and even birthday cake.

“Sun and surf” might be the stuff of summer, but that doesn’t mean a trip exclusively to the beach is in order. Some of our favorite summer destinations are located inland — but we don’t have to miss out on enjoying the cool off-water breeze or stunning scenery associated with beachy spots when we visit them. River locales, such as charming San Antonio or rugged Snoqualmie, possess all that and then some. Flowing past some of America’s best cities, around mountain ranges, and through desserts, these rivers are the optimal alternative summer spots for boating, fishing, hiking, and more while on vacation. So (bathing) suit up, and get ready to dive into our favorite river destinations.

1. May River in Bluffton, South Carolina

The May River is just one corner of gorgeous Carolina Lowcountry.

Carolina Lowcountry is a truly other-worldly corner of the United States. Here, salty marshes and mossy forests are connected by scenic waterways. The May, Cooper, and New Rivers wind through the region’s haunting landscapes, providing visitors with unique ways to soak in the beauty of the region. Boating and kayaking are popular, especially since bottlenose dolphins are common in this area. You can also go fishing, crabbing, or shrimping.

STAY: The Inn at Palmetto Bluff

This “inn” in Carolina Lowcountry is really more akin to a sprawling estate, offering a range of recreational facilities, including golf, bicycling, tennis, croquet, kayaking, and swimming; plus, the luxury spa is highly acclaimed.

2. Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico

This historic river is a major tourist attraction in Albuquerque.

The Rio Grande flows through the Southwestern city of Albuquerque from north to south. Visitors can hike through the state parks that border the river — visiting the Rio Grande Nature Center, the Albuquerque Biological Park, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, or the Rio Grande Valley State Park along the way — and get up close and personal with turtles, beavers, coyotes, and great horned owls, just to name a few. The Paseo del Bosque Trail is Albuquerque’s most popular and accessible thoroughfare. This 16-mile paved trail attracts walkers, cyclists, in-line skaters, and equestrians. Many also choose to kayak, canoe, or raft down the river.

STAY: Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa

This upscale resort is a sprawling property on the Santa Ana Pueblo reservation 15 miles north of Albuquerque. Its gorgeous natural setting under vivid blue skies offers panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Trails lead directly to the Rio Grande and the resort features numerous activities, as well as a golf course, restaurants, and several pools.

3. Snoqualmie River in Snoqualmie, Washington

Prepare to be awed at this Washington State destination.

Best known as the home of Snoqualmie Falls, the 2,683-foot high waterfall, this town offers a lot in the way of outdoor adventures. Located about an hour from Seattle, Snoqualmie attracts visitors looking forward to hiking, as a variety of trails surround the falls (which reach a height 100-feet greater than that of Niagara Falls). Visitors can also rent mountain bikes, go fishing or kayaking, and play a round of golf. In the winter, visitors can go on day trips to the slopes and try their hands (er, feet, we guess) at skiing or snowboarding.

STAY: Salish Lodge & Spa

The Salish Lodge & Spa features 84 rooms in a gorgeous setting overlooking the falls in Snoqualmie. The historic property, which originally opened with only eight rooms back in 1916, is a popular romantic getaway and wedding destination.

4. Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois

This urban river offers a different spin on the typical waterfront vacation.

Connecting the Great Lakes with the Mississippi Valley waterways, the Chicago River is an important — and beautiful — waterway. Visitors can learn about Chicago’s modern architecture while aboard one of the city’s tour boats, or save a few dollars and hop on a water taxi for an inexpensive way to get around the city and check out the sights. Kayaking and canoeing are also popular, with some excursions leading visitors out to Lake Michigan. You can also stroll the River Walk for some great views.

STAY: Hotel 71

This mid-range hotel is centrally located in The Loop, on the northern edge of Chicago’s Theatre District. Its 357 rooms — renovated in 2011 — are comfortable and spacious. The bright fitness center with great river and city views, the casual Hoyt’s restaurant, and its wonderful location make this a wonderful pick.

5. Lake Austin off of the Colorado River in Austin, Texas

Austin's lake system is actually a reservoir off of the Colorado River.

This reservoir off of the Colorado River is a popular fishing and boating destination. Visitors to the Austin area should take a bounce on a water trampoline, go down a super slide, canoe or kayak, or simply go for a nature hike in the surrounding hills. Wildlife viewing is popular – the area is home to one of the largest colonies of American Bald Eagles in the country. There are also wineries and golf courses nearby.

STAY: Lake Austin Spa Resort

This lakeside retreat along the shores of Lake Austin is more than a spa resort; with kayaking, canyon hikes, yoga and “discovery programs,” it is a true wellness destination. Gorgeous lake views can be seen throughout — from the sun-soaked dining room, cheerful lobby, upstairs living room, and even the modern fitness center.

6. Mississippi River in New Orleans, Louisiana

Hop on a steamboat in the French Quarter and experience historical NOLA.

For years, the only way to reach New Orleans was to travel down the Mississippi River by ship, and today that tradition perseveres — though it is significantly more localized. River tours through NOLA by steamboat of paddlewheeler are still extremely popular; visitors can learn about the city’s rich history, soak in the views, and listen to live jazz music while aboard. Travelers should also check out Louisiana’s stunning backcountry, with boat tours of the bayou’s unique natural wonders leaving from the city center daily. For those who prefer dry land, the Mississippi River Trail, a 3,000-mile bicycle path that stretches all the way from NOLA to the river’s starting point in Minnesota, is a must-visit.

STAY: Audubon Cottages

With a gorgeous Tuscan-style courtyard complete with a heated saltwater pool; seven exclusive one- and two-bedroom cottages; top-notch services; and a central location in the French Quarter, the Audubon Cottages is a great pick for travelers looking to splurge.

7. Savannah River in Savannah, Georgia

Keep an eye out for dolphins and manatees in the southern sections of the river.

Savannah, settled in 1773, is one of the best-preserved spots in the south. It still has its Antebellum mansions, cobblestone streets, and scenic public squares, making visiting the city feel like walking back in time. The Savannah River also offers plenty of opportunities to explore the region’s beautiful natural surroundings. Riverboat cruises, like those in NOLA, are quite popular, as are canoe and kayak excursions. Some ambitious travelers even make a whole trip out of it, paddling the river’s length in pursuit of otters, snapping turtles, alligators, and even dolphins and manatees in the lower sections of the river.

STAY: The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa

The 403-room Westin Savannah is an upper-middle-range resort located on an island across the river from Savannah’s Historic District. The main draws here are the PGA golf course and the high-end spa.

8. Hudson River in the Catskills, New York

The Hudson River is a gorgeous sight once it gets north of NYC.

Though many picture the Hudson River as it is seen in New York City — questionable cleanliness, packed full of barges and cruise ships — in Upstate New York, this waterway takes on a much more pleasant appearance. In the Catskill Mountains, the river is a beautiful site, and many people enjoy it in the summer months. Canoeing and kayaking are standard fun, as is whitewater rafting and tubing, which is particularly popular in the region. Fly-fishing for trout is a nice pastime that has been feeding farmers of the region for years.

STAY: Diamond Mills Hotel

The elegant Diamond Mills is one of the most upscale hotels in the area. It features 30 beautiful rooms with rustic European decor, balconies or terraces with views of the Esopus Creek falls, high-end amenities, and bathrooms with radiant-heat floors.

9. San Antonio River in San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio's Riverwalk is one of the city's most lively areas.

Downtown/Riverwalk truly is San Antonio‘s heart and soul. The San Antonio River Walk, a line of public walkways along the San Antonio River, is one of the most vibrant areas of the city, and is often called one of the top tourist attractions in all of Texas. Plus, it can easily be explored by foot. The city also capitalizes on the popularity of Downtown’s Alamo, and offers tons of tours of the mission, as well as tours of other 18th-century missions in the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park.

STAY: Omni La Mansion Del Rio

The Spanish Colonial architecture of the Omni La Mansion del Rio gives the upscale hotel a relaxed hacienda feel. The vibe is carried on in one of the city’s best hotel restaurants, Las Canarias, as well as mariachi performances at the comfortable — and lively — heated outdoor pool.

10. Ashley and Cooper Rivers in Charleston, South Carolina

Southern charm is alive and well on these river banks.

This relaxed Southern city is known for its historic charm, romantic ambiance, and military heritage. Charleston Harbor, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, is formed by the coming together of the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, both of which provide gorgeous scenery and fun summer activities. Biking along the river banks is a great choice for families, as is boating. The Archaeological Canoe Trail will take you past historic shipwrecks and river houses, as well as introduce you to the area’s wildlife.

STAY: Courtyard Charleston Waterfront

The 179-room Courtyard Charleston Waterfront is located on the Ashley Marina, right off the highway and next to the Medical University of South Carolina. The waterfront pool with a landscaped patio and marina views is a highlight.

The Potomac River runs through our nation’s capital, offering plenty of activities for those in town for more than just politics. Georgetown serves as the city’s waterside community, and is one of the most interesting places to shop and dine in D.C. In addition to the museums and historic sights to explore, visitors can also go kayaking and biking along the waterfront. There are also a variety of sightseeing cruises that provide great views of the Kennedy Center, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, U.S. Capitol Building, and more.

STAY: The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown

Forget gilded mirrors. The 86-room Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, housed in an historic industrial building, has the original brick and steel beams and a cozy slate fireplace in the lobby. Service is excellent and the hotel’s central Georgetown location is superb, though rooms may leave something to be desired.

Hike in the mountains or raft down the river: your choice!

This tributary of the Colorado River flows past some of the state’s best ski resorts, helping make the area popular during the summer months as well. In addition to hiking the various mountain trails, visitors to the area can go kayaking and whitewater rafting down the river. Or they can try their hand at fly fishing and try to snag themselves a trout for dinner.

STAY: Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain

Plenty of business people find themselves traveling to New York City for work. And while New York has plenty to offer all kinds of travelers, it can be tough for business travelers to find some time to enjoy the city’s many perks. Fortunately, we’ve gone through our database and have found the top business hotels that are perfect for mixing business and pleasure.

For the Sports Fanatic: ONE UN New York

Tennis courts at the ONE UN New York

Across the street from the UN, the ONE UN is a popular choice among diplomats and dignitaries, and thus is well-equipped for business travelers. Business-minded amenities include 7,500 square feet of meeting space, room service, a new coffee bar, and rooms with large work spaces. Sports and fitness fanatics will be particularly happy at this hotel, which boasts a 24-hour fitness center, a lap pool with an on-duty lifeguard and great city views, and an indoor tennis court; the ONE UN is the only New York City hotel to have one.

For the Celebrity-Obsessed: Gramercy Park Hotel

Lobby at the Gramercy Park Hotel

The Gramercy Park Hotel is one of the hippest options in New York City. Business travelers take advantage of the hotel’s meeting rooms and numerous venues, 24-hour fitness center, and spa services. But it’s not just business travelers you’ll see at this luxe spot; celebs such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sting, and Chace Crawford have all been spotted at the hotel.

For the Views Lover: The Empire Hotel

Rooftop at The Empire Hotel

Located across the street from Lincoln Center, The Empire Hotel is a sleek Upper West Side option. While it attracts numerous tourists, it is also a solid option for business travelers, with amenities such as meeting rooms, a fitness center, room service, overnight shoe shines, and secretarial services. But the highlight here, for many guests – no matter their travel reasons, is the rooftop bar and lounge, which has gorgeous views of the city.

For the Budget Savvy: Holiday Inn NYC – Manhattan 6th Avenue

Room at the Holiday Inn

It certainly isn’t the fanciest option in New York, but this Holiday Inn in Chelsea offers a great value for business travelers, with amenities such as meeting rooms, a fitness center, a small business center, room service and an on-site restaurant, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel even offers pet-friendly rooms for those who can’t leave behind their pooch when they’re traveling for work.

For the Culture Buff: The Mark

Bar at The Mark

A historic hotel that reopened in 2009, The Mark is synonymous with Upper East Side class, while maintaining more of a cool vibe than grand dames such as The Pierre and The Plaza. From heated towel racks, free Wi-Fi, and remote controls that monitor all aspects in the rooms, to 24-hour room service by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, from cell phone rentals, to the 24-hour business center, from on-call iButlers, to the two meeting rooms, the hotel is well-equipped for business travelers. But culture buffs in particular will love the Mark’s location on Madison Avenue, just a short walk from numerous museums such as The Metropolitan, The Frick, The Guggenheim, and The Museum of Natural History across the park.

For the Luxury Traveler: The Ritz-Carlton New York Battery Park

Ritz Carlton Battery Park

Located in Manhattan’s Financial District, The Ritz-Carlton is frequented almost exclusively by business travelers (and those who prefer the quieter downtown area versus bustling Midtown). Thus, the hotel caters to guests traveling for work with business-minded amenities such as 12,000 square feet of meeting space, 24-hour room service, free overnight shoe shines and morning newspapers, and a classy restaurant for impressing clients. And the hotel, in keeping with the brand, goes for over-the-top luxury. This Ritz-Carlton boasts a beautiful spa, a spacious, modern fitness center, views of the Statue of Liberty, and gorgeous rooms with plush bedding, designer toiletries, and up-to-date technology and amenities.

This elegant B&B in East Hampton is exactly what its name suggests: a house full of art. It was designed and decorated by the owners, Michael and Rosalind, who combine mutual talents in art and hospitality. While there are only a few rooms for rent, the hotel has all the amenities of a larger property, including endless communal spaces, an outdoor pool, and fitness center. Although big in scope, the Art House retains all of the personalized charm of staying with friends, making it a distinctive option in the Hamptons.

This historic home turned bed and breakfast in East Hampton is meticulously maintained and decorated. Although it’s just a short walk from the village center, it remains a hidden gem that stays open year-round. The owners, Gary and Sylvia, have included their personal touches in the 10 rooms and suites, right down to the stuffed Gordon Setters on each bed and photography on the walls; there is also a small cottage available for rent. The location is not directly on the beach, but the top-notch breakfast and easy walk to restaurants and shops make it a stand-out option.

Sole East, Montauk

This American Tudor-style hotel in Montauk is a summer hot spot that maintains an essence of “cool” without pretension. The 61 rooms and suites have a surf-chic vibe and appeal to the Manhattan set with amenities such as high-quality linens and Aveda products. Though not directly on the beach, expansive grounds include lawn games, daybeds, hammocks and an organic restaurant and bar. The outdoor pool — with live music on weekends — is popular, and the party scene has been known to carry on until the wee hours of the morning.

This sprawling resort tucked away on scenic Old Montauk Highway takes the word “panoramic” seriously: Every room comes with a direct ocean view and private patio or balcony. The 10-acre site is situated on a hillside and includes pretty walkways, an outdoor pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, and beach access. Rooms are large and lovely, and amenities are plentiful — but you’ll need a car to get to restaurants and nightlife.

This historic yet chic property in the center of East Hampton appeals to the stylish Hamptonite crowd with 16 rooms/suites, and three cottages decorated in Scandinavian design. Owned by a Swedish entrepreneur with over a dozen hotels around the world, this one is just steps from the village and a bike ride to the beach (with beach cruiser loaners available). The pretty front porch, trendy restaurant, and distinct amenities (such as yoga classes in the Buddha garden) make this a popular choice.

1. FACT OR FAKEOUT? The boutique Jade Hotel may only be a few months old, but it has already has some pretty famous visitors. Last week, Cameron Diaz was spotted getting drinks at the bar and flirting with strangers.

2. FACT OR FAKEOUT? The Westin St. John is one of three Starwood properties that make up the first shift towards the brand reducing its carbon footprint worldwide. The new green initiative will include the installation of high-tech water savers that will reduce wasted water at the hotel by 50 percent.

3. FACT OR FAKEOUT? Wyndham Hotel Group added Singapore to its destination list this week with the opening of a Days Inn and a Ramada.

4. FACT OF FAKEOUT? The general manager of the Lancaster London, along with numerous other volunteers, scaled up the side of the hotel in order to raise money for Kickstart Programme.

5. FACT OR FAKEOUT? Room service is pricey no matter where you go, but in a recent study, TripAdvisor found that Denver and Dallas offer the best value as far as room service. Not surprisingly, New York City and Honolulu offered the worst.

Check out the answers after the jump!

1. FACT! We can at least vouch that she visited the hotel’s Grape & Vine cocktail bar, located off of the lobby, with friends. Though some report she graciously indulged a man who gave getting her digits a shot, others say she left the bar solo.

2. FAKEOUT! While the St. John Westin is taking part in Starwood’s new green initiative, the installment features a solar array so that the hotel can generate its own solar power, not save water.

3. FACT! Both hotels have opened in Zhongshan Park, the newest development area in Singapore, and include over 350 rooms each.

4. FAKEOUT! She may not have scaled the side, but General Manager Sally Beck did have a lot of guts and she did raise money for Kickstart — but by repelling down the side of the hotel (with full safety gear), not scaling up it.

5. FACT! The survey compared prices across destinations to find where you get the most bang for your buck on room service menus.

For many New Yorkers, heading to the Hamptons isn’t just about the beach — it’s about the hopping nightlife. When the weather gets warm, it’s the Hamptons, not Manhattan, that becomes the place to see and be seen after dark. The first step in planning your Hamptons party weekend is choosing where to sleep when the partying is done, and we’ve saved you time by selecting five hotels to suit different tastes — and pairing each with a cool party spot of a similar style. Don’t forget your designated driver.

Stay: The Trendy Hot Spot

Capri Southhampton

The 24-room Capri Southampton received a beach-chic makeover in 2011, and the new owners brought in a BLT Steak and Lacoste uniforms for outdoor staff. These brand names attract a certain social crowd — the kind that drinks champagne and munches on seafood while mingling poolside.

Party: The Bathing Club

At this trendy hotel, the party is at your front door — literally. The rooms are all on the first floor and doors open up right to the grounds that surround the pool lounge, dubbed The Bathing Club. Lounge music pumps through the outdoor speakers, and live DJs spin on Fridays and Saturday nights. Guests can relax on daybeds and cushioned chairs, and on the weekends cocktails are served by the pool until 2 a.m.

Stay: The Cheap Crash Pad

Enclave Inn

Finding an affordable spot to crash in the ritzy Hamptons is no easy feat — but it does exist. The Enclave Inn is a basic 10-room motel with close proximity to Bridgehampton and nearby beaches. Rooms are uninteresting and starting to show wear and tear, but the front porches, outdoor pool, and a pretty lawn allow some breathing space. If you need a cheap place to sleep within driving distance to all that the Hamptons has to offer, then this is a good choice.

Party: Boardy Barn

Boardy Barn is a Hamptons institution, known for its cheap beer, cheap hot dogs, and smiley face stickers that patrons are encouraged to stick on each other (expect to leave covered in them). The raucous daytime drinking scene starts on Sunday afternoons over the summer, and there is always a line. It’s located in Hampton Bays, but those in town for the weekend may prefer to stay in neighboring Bridgehampton as it’s more convenient for hitting up the beach.

Stay: The Chichi B&B

Mill House Inn

Those looking for a quiet, romantic, upscale Hamptons experience should consider Mill House Inn, a meticulously maintained historic home turned bed and breakfast in East Hampton. It’s just a short walk from the village center and offers 10 understated, sophisticated rooms that are full of thoughtful personal touches. The top-notch breakfast and easy walk to restaurants and shops help make it a stand-out option.

Party: SL East

The chic trendsetters who can afford Mill House Inn may appreciate this upscale nightclub located just down the road. It’s the Hamptons outpost of SL in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, and the line can be very long (be prepared to shell out for bottle service if you want to get in). Once you do get in, you’ll find a huge dance hall and terrace with cabanas; there are live DJ and music performances certain nights.

Stay: The Laid-Back Waterfront Resort

Montauk Yacht Club

The family-friendly Montauk Yacht Club Resort variety of renovated rooms, suites, and villas overlooking Lake Montauk. The views take advantage of the attached marina, bobbing with boats galore, and are crowned by a white lighthouse. The resort has more than 80 years of intriguing history, and rooms are pricey but nicely decorated in nautical style. Though the location is not directly on the ocean, on-site activities and restaurants, and the free shuttles to town make it a draw for an amenities-filled Hamptons getaway.

Party: Navy Beach

Navy Beach is a relaxed restaurant on Fort Pond Bay with gorgeous sunset views. Both families and couples dine here, and the beachfront outdoor space has a low-key, lounge-y feel when it gets late, with white picnic tables, daybeds and candlelight. Yachts often anchor in front of the restaurant, so those staying at the Montauk Yacht Club could hypothetically take the boat, rather than the car, to dinner — as long as a designated, er, captain is in tow.

Stay: The Stylish Boutique Hotel

Sole East

Sole East, an American Tudor-style hotel in Montauk, is a summer hot spot that maintains an essence of “cool” without pretension. The 61 rooms and suites have a surf-chic vibe and appeal to the Manhattan set with amenities such as high-quality linens and Aveda products. Though not directly on the beach, expansive grounds include lawn games, daybeds, hammocks and an organic restaurant and bar.

Party: Hotel Pool

The outdoor pool — with live DJs on weekends — is popular, and the party scene has been known to carry on until the wee hours of the morning. There are numerous day beds, and bottle and food service from Backyard Restaurant is on offer.
